Our guided tour of the gallery will take you on an explorative journey of Russian art history beginning in the 11th century with the art of icon painting and ending in the 20th century with the influential, revolutionary Avantgarde art. On the way you will also learn more about the Peredvishniki of the 19th century, a.k.a. the wanderers, whose works incorporated realism and the social critique of their literary counterparts like Dostoyevsky, Turgenev, Tolstoy et al. One of the most famous Peredvishniki would be Ilja Repin .
